"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" also known as "Law & Order: SVU", follows the Special Victims Unit, a specially trained squad of detectives in the New York City Police Department that investigate sexually related crimes. While the focus of the other shows in the `Law & Order' franchise largely deal with murder cases, the SVU detectives frequently deal with crimes, such as rapes, in which the victim survives and assists authorities in the investigation.

The series, which will continue the classic bifurcated format that was created for its original run, will once again examine "the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders.
