From Mighty Mint, Duplass Brothers Productions, and creators & executive producers Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen (writers on HBO's "High Maintenance"), the series follows Sam (played by Everett), a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mold. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam's saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don't fit in but don't give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere. Jeff Hiller ("Nightcap") as Joel, whose vision-board dreams of Faith, Family, and high-end kitchen appliances are ripped to pieces in a spiral of joy, shame, music, and stress rashes, after he befriends his high school idol, Sam (Bridget Everett); Mary Catherine Garrison (HBO's "Veep") as Tricia Miller, Sam's resentful and scrappy sister, who is exhausted from trying to live up to hometown expectations; Danny McCarthy ("The Ballad of Buster Scroggs") as Rick, Sam's quietly unremarkable brother-in-law, whose secret sends Sam and Joel's imaginations spinning as fast as the Kansas tornado that reveals the truth; and Mike Hagerty (HBO's "Lucky Louie") as family patriarch Ed Miller, a stoic Kansas farmer who believes if you just keep your head down and work hard... you'll reap what you sow. He eventually learns that ignoring problems only makes them grow. Recurring cast includes Murray Hill ("Welcome to Flatch") as Fred Rococo, a University soil scientist by day, Master of Ceremonies in a flashy suit by night, who's been through it all, done the work, and found his stable place of happiness in the land of sunflowers; Jon Hudson Odom (HBO's "Lovecraft Country") as Michael, Joel's boyfriend who suddenly is playing second fiddle to Sam; Heidi Johanningmeier ("100 Days to Live") as Charity, co-owner of the store Tender Moments with Sam's sister Tricia; Jane Brody ("Chicago Fire") as Mary Jo, Sam's mother struggling with alcoholism. The Great

Hulu • 2020 • IMDb: 8.1
the great-nstv

A genre-bending, anti-historical ride through 18th-century Russia following the wildly comedic rise of Catherine the Nothing to Catherine the Great. A royal woman living in rural Russia during the 18th century is forced to choose between her own personal happiness and the future of Russia, when she marries an Emperor. The Great is a satirical, comedic drama about the rise of Catherine the Great from outsider to the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia's history. The series is fictionalized and portrays Catherine in her youth and marriage with Emperor Peter III (amalgamated with Peter II) focusing on the plot to kill her depraved and dangerous husband. In season two of "The Great," Catherine finally takes the Russian throne for her own - but if she thought coup-ing her husband was difficult, it's nothing compared to the realities of liberating a country that doesn't want to be. She'll battle her court, her team, even her own mother (played by guest star Gillian Anderson) in a bid to bring the Enlightenment to Russia. Meanwhile, she'll also battle her heart as Peter slowly transitions from a much-hated husband to a prisoner? Ally? Lover? Ultimately, Catherine will learn that to change a country, you must let it change you, that there is a fine line between idealism and delusion, and that becoming "Great" will ask more of her than she could have imagined. The series stars Elle Fanning as Catherine, Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow. "The Great" is created, written and executive produced by Tony McNamara and executive produced by Marian Macgowan, Mark Winemaker, Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult, Echo Lake's Brittany Kahan Ward, Doug Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding, Thruline's Josh Kesselman and Ron West, and Matt Shakman. The project is produced by Civic Center Media in association with MRC Television.

No, not that kind of swamp people. This is not a show based on a B horror film. The "Swamp People" featured in this History channel series are the proud descendants of French Canadian refugees who settled in the swamp region of Louisiana in the 18th century. Cameras follow members of this fiercely independent group as they struggle to preserve their way of life in the Atchafalaya Basin during the most important time of the year for them: alligator-hunting season.
